Heavybit’s Newest Member Company: Apportable

Earlier this month Heavybit welcomed its newest member — Apportable. Apportable lets developers build native cross-platform applications from a single codebase.

Developers can create fast, truly native apps and games that can run on any Android or iOS device straight from Objective-C – no VMs’, no emulators, and no Java translation required. An alumni of Y Combinator and StartX, Apportable powers hundreds of popular apps including Kingdom Rush Origins, Biophilia and Dots that have delighted hundreds of millions of users worldwide.

Why Apportable & Heavybit?

In the past if you wanted to build a responsive mobile app for multiple platforms you had to hire separate teams to maintain multiple code bases, test environments and deployments. It also meant companies needed considerably longer time to market between versions, and bigger budgets to maintain and support divergent code bases. Apportable lets developers use the tools they love to write an application once and run it anywhere.

Collin Jackson is co-founder and CEO of Apportable. He is on leave as a faculty member in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department of Carnegie Mellon University, where his research group focuses on the security of browsers and web applications. Collin received a B.S. in Computer Science from Yale and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford.

Ian is co-founder and CTO of Apportable. He worked at IBM on semantic web technologies and was a co-founder at Usable Security Systems, which was acquired in 2011. Ian received an M.S. in Computer Science from Harvard and is on leave from the Berkeley Computer Science Ph.D. program.
