Keen on Data Analytics
DataEngConf wrapped up in San Francisco on Friday and featured speakers from dev companies including Keen IO. A recent post on the Keen blog picked the most anticipated talks including Josh Wills, Director of Data Engineering at Slack, who presented on interdependent functions of data engineering and data science. Airbnb’s Elena Grewal described using data science to improve team diversity, and Saurabh Bajaj of Lyft covered how to run simulations at scale. Finally, Peter Nachbaur, Keen IO Platform Architect, showed how Keen IO has built its custom query engine to unify real-time and historical analytics at scale.
Great Wide Open Source
This week CircleCI announces a move to make its documentation open source for newbies and veterans alike. “Whether you are documenting code, a website or an API, clear and concise documentation is key for developers to get full value from what you’re offering,” writes Developer Evangelist Ricardo Feliciano in a blog post. CircleCI’s reference materials will be hosted on GitHub. Feliciano will be at Write the Docs North America 2016 to talk about improving documentation for his and other developer companies.
GitHub introduces DGit, an updated cluster repository storage system that aims to prevent repository downtime caused by server failures and handle higher amounts of traffic with a lower CPU load. The rollout will be gradual, with 58% of repositories having had become part of DGit when the post was published earlier this week.
Making Connections with Metrics
The collaboration between Microsoft Azure and PagerDuty gives its users more data insights this week with an announcement of new integration features. Updates listed in the post include: Azure applications insights alerts, autoscale notifications and audit log events.
According to a recent post, Treasure Data will focus on using analytics to both improve user experience and monetize a product, in an upcoming webinar with Grindr CTO Lukas Silwka, scheduled for April 15. The talk will be centered on how Silwka’s team handled rapid growth with a small DevOps team and used Treasure Date to manage the company’s analytics while quickly scaling up.
